- INCI Name: Homosalate
- Chemical Name: 3,3,5-Trimethylcyclohexyl salicylate
- CAS No: 118-56-9
Homosalate is a typical salicylic acid ultraviolet absorber, which can absorb ultraviolet rays in the band of uvb295 ~ 315nm. It is colorless transparent liquid, an oil-soluble UVB sunscreen, suitable for water-resistant formulations.
- It can prevent direct skin exposure to the sun’s harmful rays by absorbing ultraviolet (UV) light, protect the skin from UVB radiation damage and reduce the long-term harmful effects of sun exposure.
- It is a good solvent for crystalline oil-soluble UV sunscreens Benzophenone-3, Avobenzone, 4-Methylbenzylidene Camphor, etc.
- It is commonly incorporated into sunscreens for its antibacterial abilities and helps prevent product from turning rancid.
Uses & Applications
Homosalate (HMS) is approved by the FDA of the United States, Europe, Japan and Australia to protect the skin from UVB irradiation. It is a widely used chemical in sunscreens and skin care products with SPF such as emulsions, gels, creams, sticks, makeup, etc.
