- Application
Dehydroacetic acid is a low toxicity, high efficiency, broad spectrum antimicrobial agent. Used as preservatives and anti-mould agent in paint, oil, leather products, food, feed, packaging materials and cosmetics. The maximum allowable amount (mass fraction) is 0.6% (acid), and the general use content (mass fraction) is 0.02% to 0.2%.
Dehydroacetic acid is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis; it is also used as a paste for resin emulsions such as vinyl acetate emulsion and acrylic vinyl emulsion, and also used as a paste for mixtures of polyvinyl alcohol, carboxymethyl cellulose, starch, bone glue, etc.; more recently
Dehydroacetic acid is used in adhesives, mosquito coils, feed, shampoo, toothpaste and other fields; because this product has an inhibitory effect on molds, yeasts, and gram bacilli, it is used as an antifungal agent and preservative in medicine, cosmetics and food. In China it can be used for fermented bean curd, assorted pickles, and orange juice.
DHA can promote the growth of brain cells, improve brain functions, nourish the brain, prevent Alzheimer’s, and promote the development of infants and young children’s retina. However, in the application of prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, side effects such as gastrointestinal discomfort, pulmonary embolism, skin reactions and agranulocytosis may occur.
Dehydroacetic acid is a broad-spectrum feed preservative that can inhibit the growth of mold, yeast and bacteria. The antibacterial effect is basically not affected by PH, but the antiseptic effect is best under neutral conditions.
Dehydroacetic acid is an organic synthesis intermediate, toughening agent, and a broad-spectrum food preservative. As a food additive, dehydroacetic acid is allowed to be used in cheese, butter, margarine, soft drinks, fermented milk and lactic acid bacteria drinks, bean paste, fillings, etc. As a food additive, sodium dehydroacetate is generally used.
Dehydroacetic acid is also used in daily cosmetics, fiber products, medicine (such as the treatment of ringworm), and the antiseptic of dental materials.
