  1. Application field

Benzophenone-6,2,2′-dihydroxy-4,4′-dimethoxybenzophenone.

Benzophenone-6 is an efficient UV absorber for polyester film. The transmittance of film treated by benzophenone-6 is greatly reduced for light of wavelengths less than 400 nm, thus allowing the film it to be used as a UV filter.

Benzophenone-6 is used as ultraviolet absorber. It is available to unsaturated polyester, polyethylene and PVC etc. The max absorbing wavelength range is 290-400nm.The general consumption: 0.1-0.5% for thin matter, 0.05-0.2% for thick matter.

Benzophenone-6 acts as an oil soluble UV absorber for broad spectrum protection, with advantage of high efficiency. Benzophenone-6 is safe and stable to heat. It helps protect colorants, active ingredients and fragrances in cosmetics preparations against damaging effects of UV radiation.

Benzophenone-6 is used in sun care products.

Benzophenone-2, -6 and -8 are compounds made from 2-hydroxybenzophenone. In cosmetics and personal care products, Benzophenone-2, -6 and -8 are used in the formulation of aftershave lotion, bath products, bubble baths, colognes, perfumes, eye makeup removers, and other skin and hair care products.

Benzophenone-2, -6 and -8 protect cosmetics and personal care products from deterioration by absorbing, reflecting, or scattering UV rays. Benzophenone-8 when applied to the skin, absorbs UV rays. In addition to causing sunburn, UV radiation is a significant cause of premature aging of the skin and contributes to the development of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer. When used in OTC sunscreen drug products, Benzophenone-8 must be called Dioxybenzone.
